| Special Activities |
The District has an Agricultural Water Conservation Program. Through loans from the Texas Water Development Board, low interest loans are offered for the purchase of water conserving low pressure irrigation systems. The District participates in a ten-county weather modification program that is designed to enhance precipitation in the District in order to increase groundwater recharge and conserve existing groundwater resources. The program owns and operates a radar and four cloud seeding aircraft, with the radar and two of the aircraft located in Pleasanton, one in Kendy, and the forth at Stinson Field in San Antonio. The evaluation of the 2000-2001 Precipitation Enhancement Program indicated that an additional 62,908 acre/feet of rainwater was produced by cloud seeding. If a conservatively estimated 60% of the rainwater reached the ground, the additional water produced would have cost $5.43 per acre/foot. |
